Visegrád Forestry Unit

In the north-western corner of Pest County, in the Danube Bend, on the right side of Danube river, the hunting area on a surface of 5900 ha is crowned by the hills of the Visegrád mountain, at 30 km from Budapest to the north. Its degree of forest coverage is 77%, stand forming tree species are beech, hornbeam, oak, moss-capped oak. It is owing to the definitely hilly nature of the area that it is cut by cross-valleys to a great extent and some of its parts are difficult to access. The Apátkút Hunters’ Lodge and the Hoffmann Hunters’ Lodge of the Forestry Unit insures accommodation opportunities to the guest hunters all year long. The Budapest-Visegrád distance is 42 km via road no. 11. It is a nice area with good physical features where hunting is not simple and both individual and company hunting types, approaching by a horse-cart, pot-shooting techniques, individual stalk hunting, roe-deer calling, driven hunting as hunting methods can be exercised all. The quality of the trophies is typically “hilly”.

Szentendre Forestry Unit

It can be found on the eastern, south-eastern side of Dunazug hills. The 7689-ha area is under nature protection. The degree of forest coverage is 63%, stand forming tree species are: oak, hornbeam, turkey oak, beech. The area is definitively of hilly character, the average height above sea level is 300-550 m. The southern sides are preferred by the game very much in winter. The Sikáros Hunters’ Lodge of the Forestry Unit provides accommodation to the hunters all year long. The hunting area lies at 32 km from Budapest. It can be accessed via road no. 11. The quality of the trophies is “hilly” typically.

Pilisszentkereszt Forestry Unit

This is a 9800-ha area located on the southern side of Pilis hills, its degree of forest coverage is 64%, stand forming tree species are: beech, hornbeam, oak, turkey oak. The special historical event of the locality is the tragedy of Queen Gertrude of 1213 which was made known by the drama of Katona József entitled Bánk Ban. The highest point of the area is the Pilis hilltop of 756 metres. The area has a 460-hectare game park where there is an excellent stock of fallow-deer, moufflon and wild-boar. The guests arriving to the Pilisszentkereszt hunting area are hosted by the Hoffmann Hunters’ Lodge of the neighbouring Forestry Unit or the inns in the surroundings. The staff members of the Forestry Unit are happy to help in finding accommodation. The hunting area lies at 30 km from Budapest. It can be accessed via both roads no. 10 and 11. There is an excellent red deer stock on the area.
